Peru Christmas '09 $ Total & Plans

Gift Delivery in Pachacutec '07

An update on our fundraising totals…  As a young adult community, we raised over $2500! Well done everyone!!  Other groups & people in the church more than matched that amount, which is really incredible!  This is truly an effort that we’re all a part of…  Don’t forget, this Thursday seven of us head down to Lima (Pastor Evert, Craig & Cassie, Shaya, Katie Cooper, Kelly Shaw, & Chris Loar) to complete this project.  Our main goals will be 1.Purchasing gifts 2. Buying potentially 2 mototaxi’s as future sources of income for the church 3. Throwing christmas parties & giving out gifts & cards from our group in Lima & Pachacutec 4.Gifting funds to El Shaddai to finish off building work on the future drug rehab space.

We’re calling on everyone to join in committed prayer for this trip during the day on Thursday!  We’ll post details on everything we did starting next Monday and through that week!

a little early christmas treat from Bobby D

yes, it’s almost time to roll out the Christmas Ipod mix. And while the infamous Neil Diamond Christmas album remains an iconic piece of holiday music fabulousity, another rock icon is trying to get a piece of the action. That’s right, Bob Dylan released an album this month full of Christmas spirit. While we haven’t heard all the tracks yet, this video single “Must Be Santa” is simply…. bizarre & amazing. You be the judge….

Into the Darkness

Seasonal: Into the Darkness

p9280143Alissa Smith reflects on the experience of living in Turkey, where she’ll be conducting research for the year on a Fulbright grant.  Check out this feature about embracing Christmas in the Middle East…

Every year, I wait with almost obsessive anticipation for the month of December. I search house windows and storefronts for that first Christmas tree, keep my face turned to the sky to catch the first snowflake that falls.  Christmas, with all the joy of family and warmth and companionship…it’s my absolute favorite time of year.  When I spent my college years in California, I was appalled at the nerve of the city to put lights around the palm trees – lights just weren’t right on anything but Evergreens, laden with the heavy burden of fluffy snow.  I refused to acknowledge Christmas until finals were finished and I was on my way through Nevada back home to Colorado.  Just as I crossed the border into Utah and saw the first snow-capped mountain, I’d pop in my Christmas CD and take a deep breath, welcoming the season.  For me, there’s nothing better than Christmas.   Continue reading “Into the Darkness“…

The Advent Conspiracy

It’s December one today, meaning all eyes are on Christmas.  Yesterday also marked the first Sunday of Advent- the time of waiting and expectation as we move towards a celebration of Jesus’ birth.  How will you handle all of the seasonal chaos, from religious tradition to gift getting?  Hopefully, we’ll all consider the deeper meanings of the season each day.  This video offers some great thoughts.  We’ll be discussing how we might counter the typical trends of Christmas Americana with our resources this Thursday at College Group.  Merry, merry…
