from last night, below is that segment of ABC’s “what would you do?” Click on the link to see other episodes. As I said, some are funny, others a bit more heavy. Remember John the Baptists demand to “produce fruit in keeping with repentance!” Next Thursday, we’ll get specific as we share ways individually and as a group that we are taking action in the Way of Jesus…

health care perspective

If you’ve heard the rumblings in the news on the health care reform debate, but feel you have no faith resources to understand the issue, you may want to look at the blog discussion going on at scot mcknight’s site, Jesus Creed. It’s balanced, and asks hard questions that seem worthy to consider as followers of Jesus. McKnight outlines some main points and lets his blog readers respond and react. Real faith based dialogue and debate, (mostly) not obnoxious yelling and party-line talking points….
The Stories of Gay Christians

I found this article concerning a play that tells the stories of various gay Christians, and how they handled their sexuality. I thought I’d post it, as I think this issue is growing on the horizon for the church, and remains something we have very little dialogue about. The article (as well as a few of the comments I read) provide a lot to consider! I’ll admit I have a hard time myself sorting through how the church handles this issue. I’m reading and thinking about it a lot more, though, and I hope we can at least begin to have more open dialogue within the church concerning & about about the “gay issue”. I’ve also started a very helpful book that I’d also recommend called Love is an Orientation: Elevating the Conversation With the Gay Community. It’s helping me work through places I see the greater church (& myself!) failing -C

Some design changes will start to show up today… sweet! Meanwhile, after a week of heavy posts, we need to laugh! If you didn’t read the cover story from the onion last week, its a classic. The headline? “GOD MAKES SURPRISE VISIT TO LOCAL CHURCH”. You can link to the article or read it in full right here. Pretty classic… FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Parishioners at the First Presbyterian Church were left stunned and in awe of His glory Sunday, when the Lord God Almighty dropped by their 11 a.m. service unannounced. Interrupting Pastor Terry Pridgen’s sermon on His unending mercy, God appeared suddenly before His flock as an intense beam of white light, instantly dispersing the earthly forms of those seated in the first two pews. Sources said the remaining congregants had to avert their eyes from their Creator, whose booming celestial voice overwhelmed their worldly senses and humbled their hearts as He politely apologized for not calling first. newsweek: the end of christian america
Published 04/13/2009 In the News Leave a CommentTags: christian america, dan kimball, newsweek, religion in america
As we move past Easter, I thought some of you might be interested in this cover story that was in Newsweek a couple of weeks ago. The title “The End of Christian America” along with the article have received enormous response. Some say it is a huge overstep, a cry from liberal media that wants to see religion in America as a thing of the past. Others have called it an honest interpretation of the changing landscape of religion in the U.S. Either way, it may be worth a read. You can read it here- What do you think? One really good response I read came from Dan Kimball’s blog. Speaking of sweet posts, I hope you all had a chance to hear Alissa weigh in on Easter from Turkey in the previous post— very cool. Happy Monday— -C

It seems domestic abuse isn’t just on our hearts. This article in today’s Rocky Mountain News highlights the great difficulty of agencies like Safehouse meeting the needs of victims in Denver. The harder news? Economic hardships always mean higher rates of domestic abuse. The outlook is tough, as seen here: “Abused Spouses Overwhelm Area Crisis Centers“. All the more reason to participate with us in our efforts with Safehouse! Volunteer training part one is next Sunday 12-6PM.
Talking Points…

We’ve enjoyed the lively discussion on the election post, which was our most visited post since we’ve gone online. The comment board remains open. To wrap up this election run we offer a pretty classic montage of talking points from either candidate during the three debates. No special effects or repeats or overdubbing. Exact phrases and inflection. As McCain would say: Remarkable. Just when we thought either of these guys was an original politician.
Election 08: McCain V. Obama and Tuesday's Choice
Published 10/31/2008 In the News , Interviews 28 CommentsTags: election, faith, mccain, obama, vote
Going into next week’s historic election, we thought we’d offer two different perspectives from two good friends, Ben Watson and Lauren McLeary, about the Presidential candidates. For many of us who’ve participated in discussion about the next president, there’s been a tendency to play into the negative, polarized nature of politics. As a starting point to this feature, both Ben and Lauren agreed to the fact that people we know, love and respect will be voting either way next Tuesday. Secondly, they both agreed that neither McCain nor Obama is ideal or will create perfect change. Lastly, they attempted to include reasons there faith informed there vote while summarizing the reasons for their choice. We hope that Ben and Lauren sharing will be helpful for you determine your own faith priorities that weigh into your votes. Thanks guys, and happy voting…
