idol worship follow up

nighlinedrisAs we mentioned, ABC’s Nightline featured Pastor Mark Driscoll last night on their 10 Commandments series. (video here) Yesterday’s content dealt with the worship of idols.  Driscoll offered that such an “ancient” thought might not be so far from our culture as we think.  Our friend Ben Watson offers the following reflection:

Yo! I’ll dive right in… I think what Driscoll does a good job putting to words how idolatry comes to fruition in our culture.  It made me think about how I will look at other religions and say Continue reading ‘idol worship follow up’

In light of the message @ WBCC this morning, we thought we’d re-share a beautiful parable by Peter Rollins that we read a few weeks ago.  THE GREAT MISFORTUNE  looks more directly at how we can walk alongside those in suffering, rather than what our answer should be.  Enjoy:

Hear My Story…

nouwennowPeople want to see and hear stories and experience their own stories in the context of larger, maybe more dramatic, more explicit, or more intense ones… I am sure we all want to hear stories, from the moment we are born to the moment we die.  Stories connect our little lives with the world around us and help us discover who we are.  The Bible is a storybook, and the Gospels are four stories about the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, who himself was one of the greatest storytellers.   -HENRI NOUWEN   Sabbabtical Journey

For those who missed this last night:

what's this you tube for?

Well.  It’s simple.  We’re talking about Songs that Speak Deep Thursday nights.   And it’s open to any songs that have moved people in their faith journey.  Ryan Long’s story is certainly a treasure in our community, and he’ll look into this particular Creed special to communicate that to us.  So, lay aside your Scott Stapp bias, and come hear where God’s Spirit has moved a heart among us!  Coffee, Dessert, & Dialogue served @ 7PM in the GP Underground, tonight…..
