Happy Halloween from Matt Foley….
a space for the WBCC young adult community & friends
a few weeks ago, as a reflection on Justin’s teaching of Switchfoot’s “New Way to Be Human”, we all improvised poems around the phrase “All Things New”. One that got shared, written by Cassie Nason, captures that idea through nature and the change of seasons. We thought it only fitting to post it here today, amidst the winter white and the apparent new season that is upon us….
Today we take a look at the goings on with Russ, excuse me Ross Orpet, a Wyomingite at heart who turned from his roots to settle down into the “Centennial State,” or as we know it, Colorado. He shares a bit about himself here…
I shared this with a few friends yesterday and found it cool enough to post. In our discussion of SONGS THAT SPEAK DEEP, we’ve really been talking about art that moves the soul. I would contend that we are created to be creative ourselves on some level… This sand animation from “Ukraine’s Got Talent” (yes, I know, random!) reminded me of how great artists can speak so powerfully. It also reminded me that this is a whole lot better than Hasselhoffs show! Enjoy… The artist is Kseniya Simonova and in this video she depicts Russia’s ‘Great Patriotic War’ against the Nazis in the 1940’s. -C
Strangely, the same day we kick off our Peru Christmas Fund Raiser, Balloon Boy stole the headlines… Coincidence? We think not. What does it all mean? We’re not sure. But if you haven’t seen Falcon’s follow up interview on the Today show, you’ll want to check this out…
Chris breaks it down on our plans to bring the spirit of Christmas down to Lima, Peru early in December. We fire off seven weeks of fundraising tomorrow night with FREE BURRITOS FOR PERU!!— a Chipotle Culinary event, Details here. Meanwhile, remember we’re all planning to give $5/person/week. But that won’t get us to our $2,000 goal. Some can give more, and others outside of the group can get involved– Let’s do this together! Want to know the whole project details? Here’s Chris:
Thursday night, we continue our series, SONGS THAT SPEAK DEEP. This week, two very different picks as Katie Cooper sings & shares JJ Heller’s Love Me and Shaya tackles the allusive Sufjan Stevens For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Yipsilanti (yes, that really is the name!) Don’t miss it! We’ll wrap it up in time to head to our Peru Christmas 2009 Fundraiser Launch at Chipotle…
If you haven’t heard, invite your friends from 9-10PM tomorrow night to the Chipotle at Ken Caryl & C470. It’s FREE BURRITOS FOR PERU CHRISTMAS ’09!! For any donation, we’ll buy anyone a burrito. Remember, too, as a group, we’re challenging each of you to plan on at least $5 a week towards this project (we know some can do more, but we’re all committed to at least that!) More details & promo on this to come. While you wait, listen to tomorrow nights songs…
Today’s point of interest? Corrie Reiter, Coloradan turned Texan turned back Coloradan. Corrie gives us some insight into her life at the moment. She discusses everything from life back in Colorado to her potential prince charming, the Great Wall of China, and Robert Pattison, too!
My name is Corrie, actually, it’s Corrine. But Continue reading ‘Deep from the heart of… Corrie Reiter’
We just received some video from our brothers and sisters in Peru. It looks like they recently dedicated the church in Pachacutec that we helped complete this summer. It’s clear from these videos that Elsa shouldn’t be a cinematographer, but for those of you who know what was there before, you’ll be amazed at the (almost) finished product! The best angle may be seen in the last minute or so of video one, where Elsa steps outside. Remember, our Christmas in Peru fundraiser starts this week…. More details to come if you weren’t there last Thursday. For now, thank God for His work in Lima!
Thursday nights, different people are sharing SONGS THAT SPEAK DEEP. Tomorrow night, we get 2 songs that speak to our hopes in life, the dreams we chase, and how a new kingdom way could break in. Justin shares on Switchfoot’s New Way to Be Human, and Cassie brings the soul of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car to the table. Don’t miss dessert, discussion, live performances of the songs, and more. Want to listen ahead? Videos here, and lyrics below…
