Despite a pretty cheese ball mc job by Hugh Jackman on Sunday, the Oscars shared a unique message with the world Sunday. For those of you unaware, the sweeping winner was SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE- the low budget indian fable that nearly was a straight-to-DVD release. The striking symbol of the night were the two lead children actors, Azharuddin Mohammed, 10, and Rubina Ali, 9, who are actual Mumbai slum children who were chosen to act for the movie. They were allowed to come to L.A. last minute to attend the Oscars, never having left Mumbai in their lives. As they came on stage with the Slumdog entourage after being announced Best Picture winners, I was reminded of the truth that the least really are the greatest. A year ago, some of us sat in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant at the base of Machu Picchu and watched a disturbingly classic video of some wacked out, slick, latino band making a music video on the ruins. The moment was precious, but lost forever. Today, thanks to the deep web excavating of David Muniz, we have reclaimed this music video. Whether you’ve ever been to Peru or will ever go, we think this will be worth your time….
This weeks NEW BEGINNINGS feature is a series of original works out of the group recalling the sunrise many of us took in at Machu Picchu in Peru last year. We remember the power of new beginning that God allows us each morning as we look back at pictures, reflections, and a poem recalling this event!
